Tips for Advertising Your Book with Facebook Ad

DIY Sprocket Solutions

Marketing from one small business to the next is always going to vary a bit. With the ever-growing importance of incorporating paid advertising into Facebook strategy for your business, some businesses may be left wondering how to best market their products or services. For authors, there are tools in Facebook Ads that offer great ways to target your most relevant potential readers.

Facebook has a great reach as the number one social network. You don’t want to miss out on the potential of advertising to a platform with such a varied audience. The good thing about starting with paid advertising on Facebook is that you can start small and grow with results or comfort. For as little as $5, you can put an ad together and track your results. For who have published a book, this is a great way to track interest and to boost awareness.

“Detailed Targeting” and Facebook “Audience Insights” help users to find new interest audiences to target. A great place to start is to gain some information on the audience that you are targeting. Who needs your book? Who will be most interested? What demographic are you trying to reach? What comparable authors are similar to your style and genre? Use this information to create a more effective ad.  Is your book a horror / thriller? If so, selecting an author like “Stephen King” as an interest in the “Detailed Targeting” section of your ad set will put your ad in front of horror / thriller fans. This is a great way to use comp authors to target your base.

Another great tool, under the “all tools” in the top of your ad manager menu is the “Audience Insights” tool. This tool breaks down a ton of information about any particular audience, including: demographics, interests, education, page likes and more. With the “Page Likes” tab, you can enter your closest comp author, like above. The “Audience Insights” tool will take that “Stephen King” page and show you all of the other pages that have a strong crossover with that page. This gives you new relevant pages to target. Simply create new ads with these new related pages added as an interest to the “Detailed Targeting” section of your ad set and you are reaching a whole new array of relevant readers.

Remember that the key to marketing successfully is posting interesting, original, and relevant content. Beyond this, you have to get that content in front of the right people. Facebook ads allows for this targeted marketing through “Detailed Targeting” and “Audience Insights”. This is a perfect opportunity for authors to get on “the same shelf” as related authors and in front of interested readers.
