3 Ways Your Marketing Can Stand Out in the Crowd
The Sprocket Report
This article was updated on 1/2/2024 with the article entitled “3 Strategies for Lifting Your Business High Above the Competition.”
When you are so overwhelmed by the daily tasks of running a business, any sort of marketing activity feels like a reason to celebrate! But if you’re going to put in the effort, you want to really make it count. Here are three ways to tweak your marketing to get your organization noticed.
Improve on Your Competitors’ Efforts
At the very minimum, you ought to show up alongside your competitors so prospective customers see that you are one of the options. But just copying what they do is not a winning strategy.
They may be investing heavily in a platform that is returning poor results, so it’s best to test it out for yourself. And don’t be satisfied with being an “also ran.” Whatever your competition is doing, you want to do it just a bit better. Instead of starting from scratch, learn from their experiences and build on that.
Find and Work a Niche
It’s far easier to stand out when you’re the only one there. Check out leads groups and chambers of commerce. If there aren’t any other businesses like yours, you’ve just become the go-to expert in your field. Look for social media platforms where your competition is not active. Try other geographical areas and cultural communities that your competitors may have neglected. Remember people want your product or service, so make it easy for them to find you.
Work with a Complementary Business
“Many hands make light work” in marketing as well. Coordinating with a complementary business means you share the costs and effort and have the opportunity to reach an audience that may be new to you.
Complementary marketing can be hugely successful. Think of Amazon’s “people who bought this, also bought that” reminders. You aren’t competing – there’s room for both of you to make a sale – and you’ve identified a target market that will appreciate what both of you are offering.
You’ve got to shine a light on your business so prospective customers can find you. The only thing that grows in the dark is mushrooms and even mushrooms don’t sell themselves! Stop refining the perfect marketing plan and just get started. Even minor improvements made on a regular basis can add up to big success over time.
