Two Important Questions Business Owners Should Ask Themselves
Your customers ask you questions. Your vendors ask you questions. Your team asks you questions. But are you asking yourself these two very important questions?
When you are the business owner, it’s expected that you’ll wear a lot of hats. To grow your business, however, it’s best to ask others to wear some of those hats so you can focus on what you do best. When you are tempted to put on yet another hat, it’s time to ask yourself two questions:
Will I and Should I?
Before Putting on the Web Developer Hat
- Will I design a website that attracts potential customers?
- Will I utilize the right techniques to optimize my website for search engines?
- Will I monitor and update my site on a regular basis to keep it secure?
- Will I keep up with the latest advice for search visibility?
Should I spend my time as a web developer instead of doing my other business tasks?
Before Putting on the Marketing Hat
- Will I regularly check on industry trends and my competition?
- Will I be able to find and access useful information?
- Will I know how to decipher analytic reports?
- Will I successfully create and implement marketing strategies?
Should I spend my time becoming a marketer instead of doing my other business tasks?
Before Putting on the Social Media Management Hat
- Will I commit to understanding which platforms are best for my company?
- Will I make the effort of creating and posting on those platforms?
- Will I have the discipline to stick to a schedule?
- Will I make the effort to respond to and “be social” with my followers?
Should I spend my time becoming a social media manager instead of doing my other business tasks?
Before Putting on the Bookkeeping Hat
- Will I keep accurate records of my financial activity?
- Will I know how to use this information to pay my taxes appropriately?
- Will I invoice clients and pay vendors promptly?
- Will I understand which numbers are important to my business planning?
Should I spend my time keeping accurate books instead of doing my other business tasks?
Before Putting on the IT Support Hat
- Will I know what technology will make my operations run smoothly?
- Will I make the effort to maintain my systems to head off trouble?
- Will I have the skills to fix problems when they occur?
Should I spend my time on IT support instead of doing my other business tasks?
