It's Never Too Early to Make Good Business Resolutions for the Coming Year
If your schedule revs up during November and December, now might be the best time to ponder plans for your business in 2025. Whatever you do, there’s one important question you should ask yourself.
Have you been mulling a new website or a website upgrade? Thinking about improving your SEO or pursuing digital marketing more actively? Maybe you have been reading articles and attending webinars that fire you up to try new tools and techniques – and shaming you for being out-of-date or out-of-touch. Of course, your entrepreneurial passion drives you to seek out new ways to grow your business.
But whatever your goals are for the coming year, there is one key resolution every business owner should make and keep:
KNOW WHY.
It’s easy to get swept up in the latest and greatest tips by well-respected gurus, only to be disappointed when our hard work falls far short of the goals we anticipated. Instead of conducting a post-mortem of unsatisfactory marketing, thinking through the process beforehand is a better use of our precious time. Here’s what we mean:
KNOW WHY: You need a website.
What do you expect your website to do for you?
If you are backing up a professional reputation, a good-looking site with few frills may be all you need. Allocate the rest of your budget to SEO and marketing.
Are you fulfilling online sales? Then plan on a serious website investment because slow-loading pages, broken links, and other issues mean lost revenue.
KNOW WHY: You need to blog.
What results do you expect from a blog?
If the goal is to build search-term-rich pages for boosting your website’s SEO, then be sure you research the appropriate terms and use them to write posts. Take extra care with your headlines and paragraph structure.
Are you trying to build a reputation as an expert? Plan your budget accordingly because marketing your blog may take more effort than writing it.
KNOW WHY: You need social media.
What are the goals for your social media platforms?
To get news out quickly, such as advertising daily deals or events, you must commit to constantly being where your audience is. It’s also vital to provide content that people engage with so that the algorithms keep displaying your messages.
If you want your business to stay top-of-mind until a prospective makes that “buy” decision, simply broadcasting may not be enough. Interacting on other social media accounts may provide more visibility to the right people at the right time.
With so many marketing options available today, blindly jumping on the Next Big Thing could rack up some really awful results and make your Return On Investment pitiful. Knowing why you are going through the motions of any marketing campaign will save you both time and money.
Once you make the resolution to KNOW WHY before starting a new marketing strategy, be sure to also set up an evaluation plan because if you aren’t measuring the results of your efforts, you will never be sure whether or not you met your goal.
As we start wrapping up 2024, you may be overwhelmed by the zillion of tasks facing you. Or maybe you are excited to get started on 2025. Either way, embrace the Know Why resolution to have confidence in your business decisions. Find out how a partnership with the Sprocket team can fulfill your plans for the year ahead.
