This is an update to "Getting Bloggy" dated 10/10/2012.

It seems like everyone has a blog. Apparently, now I am also included in the everyone." The blog that started my blogging obsession 8 years ago was a DIY home renovation/design blog that I loved and my husband hated because of all the extra work (remarkable and innovative ideas) that then filled up his Sundays. Lucky for him, once I popped into the blogging world, I discovered an internet Mecca. This is what business owners have found to be the most valuable in recent years. There are millions of people commenting, entering prize giveaways, reading, and BUYING because of these blogs. It is literally another civilization that you can, and I often do, get lost in for days. Why does this matter to you as a business owner?

The holiday frenzy has begun, and small businesses are frantically searching for the best ways to promote their businesses online. There are a ton of marketing options, which is a good thing, but it can be confusing for people marketing their businesses to wade through the options and determine what the best fit for them is. For those businesses who are trying to reach customers physically near their stores, meet Facebook’s “Reach Ads”.

Facebook advertising is a large focus of many online marketing efforts currently. Marketers are tracking the benefits of advertising on Facebook, figuring out the best ways to post and evaluating what advertising methods are most lucrative and efficient. When it comes to Facebook advertising, the question that tends to come up is: What is better? Boosted posts or traditional Facebook ads?

RIP to organic reach for businesses on Facebook. It is true that, if you want your content to be seen by customers, you’re going to have to pay to play. Even though social media marketing hasn’t been around all that long (if you consider roughly a decade a short amount of time), this is still a very hard pill to swallow for most marketers and businesses alike. Change is hard. The algorithm has changed already though. Now it’s time for the rest of us to catch up.

DIY Sprocket Solutions

It seems funny to even consider that a marketing approach on Facebook would be outdated. However, now that a decade has passed, there have definitely been enough significant changes and shifts to the way Facebook handles business that you need to be aware of your marketing standing. Are you keeping up with the times? Is your approach stale?
