Is Paid Advertising on Social Media Right For You?

This article has been updated on 5/11/2021 with the article entitled “Experiment with Facebook Ads to Boost Your Business Brand.”
The past few weeks I’ve been dipping my toes into the paid advertising arena on social media, trying out a few different methods and testing the waters. I’m no expert by any means –extreme beginner alert. However, with a few weeks under my belt, I can tell you what I have found so far. Results.
I know that with most small businesses, budgets are everything. Huge companies have huge ad campaigns because they have huge wallets. Small businesses have to be careful with the way that they delegate funds; but, I can tell you one thing –you’ve got to give a little to get something in return. In the past few weeks, I’ve learned that setting even a very modest advertising budget aside can garnish some big results. Especially for a company that is just getting started on social media, setting a budget of $10 a day for a week will easily triple your number of followers, fans, likes, etc.
What does this get you? Visibility. A base platform to grow from. When you grow your base of followers then you have a bigger arena to display your content, products, etc. Whatever it is that you want to get in front of your customers faces. If you only have 50 followers, then you only have 50 people seeing your status updates, blog posts, or sales and specials. Spend $50 gain 150 followers and boom. You’ve quadrupled your visibility.
The key here is to make sure that it’s worth it to you. Set up a goal and test it out. Maybe you’re only willing to part with $100. What do you need to make that $100 worthwhile? 100 new followers? 25 blog subscriptions? 2 new customers? Decide what your goals are ahead of time and target your advertising to achieve these goals.
Set small goals and timetables and continually re-evaluate. Let’s say your budget for this month is $100 and your goal is 50 new followers and 3 new customers. Now let’s say that you reached your goal; exceeded even. Now is the time to re-evaluate for the next month. You’ve been successful, what did you do right? What worked for you? How can you grow this campaign moving forward and what are your new goals?
So the question –is paid advertising on social media right for you? My answer is YES. Absolutely. However, every company is different. Every goal is different. Every budget is different. Start small and figure out what is comfortable for you. After your first timetable, re-evaluate before moving forward.
Has anyone else had experience in paid advertising for their small business? How did you go about it? For those of you just getting started –good luck! Keep me posted…
