How to Think Like an Entrepreneur

DIY Sprocket Solutions

We’re not all destined to jump out into the world and invent the next IPad. It just may not in the cards for everyone. Just because you’re not going to go full on Elon Musk on us doesn’t mean that you can’t get your head into the entrepreneurial mindset and use some of those same thoughts to propel you farther in whatever career it is that you want to thrive at. And who knows, maybe you are the next great visionary. Maybe you’ll be the entrepreneur of the millennia –but first, you’ve got to start thinking like one.
First, get obsessive. Get passionate. Get infatuated with an idea or with the way you want to be in your working life. Let it consume you, let it take over, and throw yourself into it. Once you’re passionate about what you’re doing, you are that much closer to success. Where there is a will there is a way. If that will is strong enough, you won’t let anything get in your way of achievement.
Second, don’t settle. Be your own worst critic if you need to be. What are your inefficiencies? What could be improved, tweaked, or totally ripped out? If you’re passionate about what you’re doing, you’re going to want to knock out all the kinks in your way.
Third, roll the dice. Sometimes you’ve got to risk it all. There isn’t an entrepreneur on this planet that didn’t have a critic at one point or another look and them like they were completely nuts. Risk big win big. Try an approach you’ve never tried before. This isn’t the time to sit on the sidelines; this is the time to get into the game. Get outside your comfort zone.
Fourth, get creative. If you’re going to be a visionary, you need to think like a visionary. Think outside the box. Don’t be afraid to surround yourself with people and brainstorm until you can’t see straight. Constant innovation, constant improvement, and constant change are necessary.
Fifth, reach for the moon. If you limit yourself to small dreams, you’ll accomplish small goals. Dream big. This doesn’t mean that you will succeed, but if you don’t believe in yourself –who will? Be your own biggest supporter. The only voice you need telling you it’s possible is your own.
Here’s the thing about thinking like an entrepreneur -it’s risky, it’s constantly in a state of motion, and your outcome is never a guarantee. But, you have to get passionate about what you want to accomplish; you have to work constantly to improve yourself and your ideas; you have to take big risks; you have to think as creatively as you can; you have to set your sites on a larger goal. By the way, I guess I should mention, you can’t be afraid to fail. How many times do entrepreneurs fail? Over, and over, and over. You only hear about the one time they succeeded though.
So, what’s your big goal? How are you going to reach it?
