WordPress and DNN Websites - Your Choice, Our Support
Delegate your updating duties starting today
“You build WordPress websites?” Since we are long-time DNN experts, folks were surprised when we recently talked about updating both WP and DNN. Yes, we build in both platforms – and for very good reasons.
All web developers, including those at Sprocket, have delved into multiple website platforms looking for the holy grail of capability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of use. And of course producing terrific-looking websites is kind of important, too! Both DNN and WordPress have many of the qualities we wanted for our clients.
We build and maintain a number of sites in DNN, which was formerly known as DotNetNuke, and have long been involved in the DNN community because we love working with the extreme flexibility and prefer its security. Our DNN clients tend to be bigger businesses or in the government and education sectors. These clients have their own IT departments with Microsoft servers and workstations, and since DNN is based on Microsoft’s .NET, it is the best choice for their intra- and inter-net needs.
But obviously many organizations don’t have an IT department of their own, which is why small businesses gravitated toward WordPress. WordPress started out as a free blogging platform and what small biz owner doesn’t love free? Small biz folk kept stretching the basic blog to meet their growing business needs, with the help of WP’s dedicated community of developers, until WordPress became the multi-functional website platform it is today.
Because WordPress websites are enormously popular with small biz owners, they also get a lot of attention from hackers – and the older the website version, the more vulnerable it is. Too often, a young business creates their first WP website and then is so busy growing that they don’t get around to updating that website, which makes them a prime candidate for hacking.
Regardless of your web platform, keeping the version updated to the latest one available is the best way to thwart hackers, but we know small business owners have a zillion other things to do. This is one of those tasks you really should outsource. Updating software, checking for compatibility between plug-ins, and fixing what breaks – your efforts are better spent elsewhere.
Sprocket Websites does this all the time, for both WordPress and DNN, so it just makes sense to assign the job to us. We’re happy to talk about how to protect your website from hackers. Give us a call today so we can discuss it!
