The Links & Website Authority Report
The purpose of a search engine is to return the best possible URL result when a user types a query into the search box. One way a search engine evaluates URLs is by checking who else thinks that result is good. If other websites link to that URL, it’s a sign of approval. More links mean more approval, so search engines will rank that URL higher.
To keep wrongdoers from gaming the system, it takes more than just the number of links back to a website to increase rank. The site providing the backlink is also evaluated, with quality websites passing along more approval points than junky sites.
Another way websites are evaluated is by age because quality sites have longer lives than junky ones. In fact, there are more than 100 different attributes that are weighed when Google ranks a website.
- The Links & Website Authority Report provides a snapshot of how your website ranks. It’s comprised of several measurements, some of which are reported on a scale:
- The Trust Flow Score indicates links to your site from those known to be trustworthy on a scale of 1 to 100.
- The Citation Flow Score reflects how often users click links that lead back to your website, again using a scale of 1 to 100.
- Link Count is the actual number of times a user clicked on a backlink to your site.
- And the Linking Domains figure reflects the number of websites that have links back to your website for users to click on.
Keep in mind that a URL can be penalized for having links on untrustworthy websites, so just building backlinks willy-nilly is not a good strategy. But it does pay to brainstorm who in your business network might host a valuable backlink.
