Rank Tracker – Average Google Position
Among the reports you can view in the Rank Tracker is Average Google Position. This is an at-a-glance report that displays results from the report most recently run during each month.
“Average” position refers to results drawn from organic results via Google Desktop, Google Mobile, and Google Local for each keyword. For instance, say your website’s position for “coffee shop near me” is 5 on Google Desktop, 4 on Google Mobile, and 3 on Google Local. Your Average Position is figured by adding the three positions, 5 + 4 + 3 = 12, and then dividing by the three sources, 12 ¸ 3 = 4. Your Average Google Position would then be 4.
The most recent score is displayed at the top, along with an arrow indicating if the score has improved or lost ground since the last month and by how much. Using the drop-down menu, you can choose the number of months to graph on the chart, from 1 to 36. Hovering over each point on the graph will show you the Position for that specific month.
Two other graphed reports are also available in this Overview. We will talk in-depth about these next time. Remember, that Rank Tracker is an optional report. Give us a call if you would like to run the Rank Tracker for your website.
