Are you acting as Social Media Manager for a business or not-for-profit and feeling overwhelmed? While you’re navigating the learning curve, here are some tips for sharing Facebook posts.

Tip #1:  Share Facebook posts. But not all at once.

People scan Facebook when it’s convenient for them – which may not be the same time it was convenient for you. If you share all the good stuff at one time, it may be buried by more recent posts before your audience has a chance to see it. Scheduling posts at different times of the day or on different days of the week gives you more opportunities to get in front of the people you’re trying to reach.

That said, sometimes scheduling posts is not an option. For instance, you can’t schedule posts on a Personal Profile page nor on a Group page of which you are a member, and while you can schedule posts on a Business Profile page, scheduling a post you want to Share from your Pages Feed gets complicated.

Say you saw the post below in the Pages Feed on your Facebook Business Page and you want your readers to see it.

One option is to Share it immediately, but maybe you just posted something else and since you want to space out your posts, you’d rather post this tomorrow. If you click on this post, the article will open as a new page with its own URL, as seen below:

If you copy that URL and paste it into a new Facebook status, you can now schedule when that post will appear in your Timeline. Note, however, that you are sharing a link to the article in the post, not the post itself.

Let’s look at another option using the post below. As before, we have the option of Sharing the post immediately.

We can Share it on our own Timeline, on any Page we manage or with any Group to which we belong by clicking the appropriate choice in the drop-down menu.

There is also some choice in who is posting the Share, within limits. For example, you can post as your Business Page on other Business Pages, but not on a Group Page. In this example, the poster could be Sprocket Websites or Synergy Conejo.

So our choices are to Share this post immediately or Schedule just the link in this post to appear at future time. Now here’s a simple, low-tech solution for Sharing this post at a later date:  Save it. If you click on the drop-down arrow on the right, the menu gives you an option to Save Link.

Saved Links are found under Favorites on your Personal Page. When you’re ready to Share the post, click on Saved Links and find the one you want to Share. You’ll see two options:  a Share button and a Saved From link.

The Share button will post the link given, just like copying a URL into your Scheduled status. And as you can see above, that URL link generated an ugly Facebook post. To truly Share the post, preserving the original Facebook message and graphic, you’ll need to click on the Saved From section. That will take you right back to the original post with the attractive graphic which you can now Share.

Sure, it’s a bit of trouble, but it’s one way to catch more eyeballs.
