Twitter Schedulers Still Offer a "Free Lunch," but It's a Skimpy One

Yes, Twitter, or X, as it is now named, is an instant messaging platform, but sometimes we have to put the smartphone down and get other work done. Unfortunately, the old free schedulers are hard to find today.

Scheduling posts, which used to be called “tweets,” is not the same as real-time communication, but it allows your business to share info while you’re busy elsewhere to keep your brand in front of prospective customers.

Back in 2015, I reviewed some of the popular Twitter schedulers that were budget-savers for small biz folk, but the landscape has altered quite a bit! Here’s a brief run-down of what’s changed:

Twuffer

This was a simple application that only scheduled tweets without any distractions. Twuffer’s last tweet, however, was in June of 2020.

Tweetdeck

Tweetdeck has been rebranded as XPro and then XPremium, and while no longer a free tool, it is still available. Scheduling is one of the features you can take advantage of when you sign up for an X Premium subscription at $8 per month.

Hootsuite

I personally used Hootsuite for many years and was grandfathered in over several incarnations. They started “restricting” free accounts in March of 2023 and finally shut mine down a month ago. They offer a free 30-day trial, but the lowest paid plan available at Hootsuite is now $99 per month.

So, are there any truly free schedulers out there? Yes, but with limitations. If you can work with their limitations, one of these options may be the solution you need right now:

Twittimer

You can schedule posts from 1 Twitter, 1 Facebook, and 1 LinkedIn account here with the Basic Free Forever plan. However, you are limited to just 10 posts at a time. If you want to post twice a day, that’s only five days, which means you might be updating during your week’s vacation.

Buffer

Like Twittimer, Buffer lets you manage three accounts in their Free plan. Also like Twittimer, you are limited to 10 posts at a time. With the Essentials plan at $5 per month, you can schedule up to 2,000 posts.

X

Finally, there is the X platform itself. You can schedule posts right in X by clicking on the Schedule icon instead of the Post button when you are composing. This is currently free and available for use.

These limited free options may be better than no free options if you are just starting out in business and money is super tight, but working around their limitations takes time that might be better used elsewhere. Only you can decide. Eventually, you will want to upgrade for better service or even pass the task along so you can focus on your core business.
