Thinking WordPress? Then Choose Divi for your Next Website and Here's Why:

WordPress offers a variety of themes, and the favorite of the Sprocket team is Divi. Read on to learn why we build websites with it, and why you should, too.

By now everyone has heard of WordPress, that it’s an open-source content management system, free to use, and nearly half of the World Wide Web is built with it. All true. To give your WordPress website the look you desire, you’ll want to purchase a theme, and when you do, we suggest you use Divi by Elegant Themes.

Themes are what define the look of a website. Unfortunately, with many of the available themes, adding text and pictures can be difficult and design changes are complicated, particularly for the do-it-yourselfer. To add content or make changes, you log in as the administrator and work in the “back end” of the site, switching to the “front end” to see how those changes actually look to your website visitor.

The Divi theme, however, comes with its own visual page builder that lets you manipulate your layout in the “front end” rather than the “back end” so you can see what you are creating as you are creating it. It’s much more intuitive and saves you from flipping back and forth all the time.

The Divi theme also provides a nice selection of modules that you can drop onto your web page as you choose. Each module provides a specific kind of content. For instance, a text block can be dropped on your Home page to introduce your business. Or an images block can be dropped on your About Us page for headshots of your team. If you are a brick-and-mortar business, a map block, which uses Google Maps, lets customers get directions straight to your location.

And that’s just for starters! Divi also has some fun advanced elements that you might want to explore. One is the popular parallax effect in which the foreground moves more quickly and independently of the background image. With the Divi builder, you can turn on that magical effect with a simple click of a button.

With slightly more effort, you can achieve Scroll Effects, usually something only seen on the very expensive websites. As your visitor scrolls down the webpage, eye-catching transitions and animations react to the visitor’s movement on the screen. You can use Scroll Effects to engage visitors and tell a marketing story that encourages them to continue scrolling until they get to your Call To Action. Also, it looks really cool!

The Sprocket team uses several excellent website building tools and, no, we aren’t WordPress affiliates. Rather, we are sharing our opinion of Divi because of our commitment to partnership. Whether you are building a website on your own or if you hire someone to build it for you, it makes sense to have a basic understanding of the pros and cons. It makes you a better partner when working with your web and marketing professionals.

Recently, we presented an overview of Divi as a guest of the SCORE mentors in Fox Valley. That presentation was recorded, so if you are more of a visual or auditory learner, you are welcome to a copy. Simply fill out our contact form and we'll send you the link.

Of course, not everybody wants to build their own Divi website, so the Sprocket team is here for you. Just give us a call!
