Yes, Some of You Are Still Making These Mobile Marketing Mistakes
When was the last time you checked?
Believe it or not, there are still business websites out there that not only look horrible on a mobile phone, but are impossible to use. That’s not you, is it?
Your customers travel everywhere with a tiny computer in their back pocket that has all the same power as the internet on a portable little screen. That’s how most people are using their mobile phones these days. When they can’t find what they are searching for online – or when they finally do find it, they can’t click on the tiny links – well, you just lost a customer!
There are three top “musts” when it comes to your basic mobile marketing strategies. As impossible as it seems, we are still finding websites that have not been updated for today’s mobile user. Are you sure your website is doing its best on mobile devices?
Build your website for use on a tiny screen
“Responsive” design is common now, but not that long ago, websites looked the same on a mobile phone screen as they did on a desktop computer screen – just itsy-bitsy. Unfortunately, many un-responsive remnant websites remain. Just the other day, we tried to read an extensive restaurant menu that showed up as a miniature pdf. Most of your customers are not going to be able to read that tiny print and will quickly get fed up with all the pinching and scrolling required to make it bigger.
Here’s another way to give someone the urge to throw their phone through a window: Post your phone number or email your website, but don’t make it a clickable link. If they are on their phones and click on your phone number, it should just make the call. If your customer is searching from a phone, chances are they are in a hurry, so make it easy for them to contact you.
Make the mobile experience a pleasure
Think about the websites you like most and look around to see what other companies with great mobile strategies are doing. What kind of content do your customers like to browse on their phones? How can you make the customer journey more convenient? Your actual marketing strategies, of course, will be your own, but it only make sense to learn from your competition’s successes and failures.
Be sure you are easy to find online
Businesses should never play hard to get. Immediately popping up as the right result in an internet search is even more important for mobile use. When your customer is on their cell phone searching for a hardware store, they have, maybe, a 10 second attention span. What they don’t have is the time or the patience to sort through a whole bunch of results that may or may not be what they want. Be sure they know you are the best answer to their search through good SEO techniques and by making sure your online listings, such as Google My Business, Yelp, and so on, are claimed, updated, and cleaned up so your business listings are correct.
We’re business owners ourselves, so we understand if you’ve been too busy to take care of how your website looks on a mobile device. But since it’s so important to your bottom line, you really need to fix this. Our team would be happy to do the work for you, whether you need a new website or just some updating of your online presence. Just give us a call to see how we can work together!
