Using Social Media to Build Your Email Marketing List
Email marketing is long from being dead. It’s a top choice still in the marketing world. This is a great tool to get your content, sales, product, specials, etc. in front of your target audience. The problem? Getting the email addresses in the first place. So, how do you go about it? Honestly.
You don’t want to trick people into joining your email campaign. Why? Because they’re just going to opt out or tune you out. Or, and more detrimental, they are going to have a negative view of your business. No one wants to feel taken advantage of. How do you go about signing up people to your email campaign in an honest way? Give them the content that they want.
Social media can be your greatest asset in this task. First you have to identify what your content is. Are your emails sales and specials for subscribers? Are they filled with informative content and articles on specific subjects? Whatever they may be, use your social media channels to promote them. Maybe this week you are writing an article called, “Using Social Media to Build Your Email Marketing List”. See what I did there? Go create a great graphic for that article. Jump on all of your social media channels and share that title, share that graphic, and a little teaser post. What do they have to do to read that great article? Sign up for your newsletter.
Give the people what they want.
You have to know what content or incentives your customers are searching for and then you have to provide it to them. On top of that, work it into your social media plan. Instead of giving your articles away for free, make a few of them “members only”. Hold a flash sale for email subscribers only and promote it on social media. Write an ebook and provide it free to email subscribers. Promote it on social media.
Social media is like having a megaphone. It’s public, it’s a platform, and when you make a post it is shouted to the masses. Use that tool to get your followers hooked. Then have your posts link to your email signup.
You can get as creative with this as you like. You can create a series of graphics, you can create a series of sales and specials, you can offer insider knowledge, and so much more. The point is that social media truly is your megaphone. Use it to your advantage when it comes to email marketing. Let it support your growth.
What ways do you use social media to promote your email marketing campaigns? What success have you had? What are your thoughts on being honest with your customers about what they’re signing up for? Comment below!
