Top 5 Free Social Media Management Tools

DIY Sprocket Solutions

This article has been updated on 8/3/2021 with the article entitled “Update: Still Free Social Media Management Tools?”

Businesses are continually encouraged to keep up with the beast that is social media marketing. More accounts to manage, more users to target, more followers to gain, more engagement, and more content to push. For companies with multiple social media accounts (ex: a Facebook page, Twitter page, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest, etc.) managing all those pages by single handedly logging into and updating each one is daunting. Add to the mix businesses like ours that help other companies manage their social media accounts and you’ve got one huge project (and one huge time suck) on your hands. Enter social media management tools.

There are a ton of these tools out there today. But we’ve lined up the top 5 free tools that you’ll find:

1. Bitly:

Bitly has a variety of features. They’re probably most well-known for shortening links that you use to post to your social media accounts. However, they also have a wide range of other features from providing real time-analytics to bookmarking your favorite sites and pages and giving you the ability to track clicks.

2. Everypost:

This is an app that allows you to post all of your updates onto the major social networks from one place at one time. You can hook up your accounts from sites like Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Tumblr, etc. and create your messages, add photos and links, and then send them off. They also offer features like Twitter text shortener that will shorten tweets to fit in the mandatory 140 characters guideline.

3. Spredfast:

Spredfast is a great tool to use to measure data gathered from sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr. The measured data includes your actual reach and reporting on whether or not your target audience is engaging with you and much more.

4. SocialOomph

This tool gives you the ability to schedule your tweets for the day. It has the function to auto-follow your new followers. You can also use the dashboard for functions like combining Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and your blog into one spot so you can schedule posts and keep an eye on your social media activity.
Note: this app has a free version and also offers a paid professional option with additional features to help boost your social media productivity.

5. HootSuite:

This is currently, by far, the the most popular social media management tool. HootSuite gives you the ability to manage multiple social media campaigns across multiple social media networks from one dashboard. It gives you the ability to schedule posts, track conversations, and then measure your campaign results with a custom built-in analytics system.
Note: this tool comes in a few different options from free to “pro” ($8.99 per month) etc.
