Social Media Marketing Trends in 2016

DIY Sprocket Solutions

This article was updated on 12/19/2023 with the article entitled Look How Far Social Media Marketing Has Come in 8 Years!

The end of the year is fast approaching and it’s time to take a look ahead. What do we have to look forward to in 2016? What trends are on the way out and which are here to stay? Anything new on the horizon? Well, slow down, I’ll fill you in.

Search is going to explode:

We’ve already seen social media platforms expanding their search algorithms and offer different types of guided searches. We’ve seen Facebook totally revamp their search. Pinterest in becoming the new Google and YouTube has expanded and updated their search as well. This will only continue to increase and become more prevalent in 2016.

Mobile, mobile, mobile:

In 2015, mobile became the norm. Not having a mobile site really wiped businesses off the online map. This year Google actually introduced a new algorithm, ‘Mobilegeddon’, which saw websites that were not optimized for mobile as completely phased out. This next year is going to be all mobile, all the time. If someone is taking the time to look at your site on their computer, chances are they’ve already found it on their phones. Having an outdated website is no longer an option in 2016. We are leaps and bounds beyond that. You get two shots at a first impression –one is when customers walk into your location and another is when customers find your online location. Treat it with the importance of your brick and mortar storefront.

Content is (still) King:

Creating original, relevant, and quality content will continue to be a huge priority in 2016. Content marketing is not losing any speed. This has been a way for brands to develop a persona and connect with their customers and clients. If you aren’t pushing out original content on 2016, you might be pushed out yourself.

Visual Content:

Now that visual content is so important in Google, people are going to focus more on visual content vs keyword optimization in the coming year. Videos, pictures, infographics and more will become very relevant to searches. Seeing is believing!

We haven’t quite finished up with 2015, but we can see the direction that the next year is headed. Technology continues chugging away and marketers continue to use social media platforms to get their messages across. What do you think is up next in 2016? Anything you hope marketing steers away from? Comment below!
