Buyable Pins on Pinterest for Marketers and Retailers

This article has been updated on 11/21/2023 with the article entitled If Pinterest Is Wildly Successful for Some Businesses, Could It Be for Yours?

This week, Pinterest announced the rollout of buyable pins for U.S. Android users. Back in June, Pinterest announced buyable pins for iOS users as well. With Pinterest serving as a huge site for retailers and shoppers, it’s no wonder that they’re putting this sort of tool to use. Because about eighty percent of people buying things on Pinterest are doing so via mobile, buyable pins are a very smart and clear next step. They also announced The Pinterest Shop this week. The Pinterest Shop will serve as an opportunity for people to find collections of buyable pins that are handpicked by Pinterest.

Since the announcement of buyable pins back in June, Pinterest now has over 60 million buyable pins available to users. These pins allow users to buy directly from retailers. Retailers that have partnered up with Pinterest so far are Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus and more. Pinterest has also partnered with Shopify. This is significant because, through this partnership, mid-size and smaller businesses such will also be able to sell directly to Pinterest users.

Via SocialTimes:

Buyable Pins are a simple, secure way to buy the products you love right in the Pinterest app. Designed for your phone, Buyable Pins have a blue price tag and are discoverable through the home feed, category feeds, search results, recommendations, boards and The Pinterest Shop. You can search for Buyable Pins, filter by price and, once you find a Pin you love, scroll through high quality images, select your size and color, click Buy It and pay with a credit card, right from the Pinterest app.

While this is all very well in good for retailers –how exactly do you get your products to roll out as buyable pins? Well, for now, you’ll have to wait in line. Currently there’s a waiting list that you can join to start setting up your Pinterest for Business page as a portal for direct sales. You can find that: HERE

Via the Pinterest for Business Page:

Buyable Pins are only available to select U.S. retailers and businesses using commerce platforms like Shopify, Demandware, Bigcommerce, IBM Commerce and Magento. We plan to work on more integrations in the future.

If you're interested in getting Buyable Pins to sell your products, contact one of the platforms above or sign up for the waitlist. We'll let you know as soon as they’re available to you.

So, will this be a great tool for marketers and retailers alike? Yes! Is it something you can start today? Unfortunately, no. I would definitely recommend getting on the waiting list if you can and consistently checking back to see what new integrations they add in the future.

Have you tried out buyable pins yet? What was your experience? Did you jump on the waitlist today? Comment below!
