Can Artificial Intelligence Help Your Business? What to Consider:

Some couldn’t wait to jump in. Others are avoiding it like the plague. Whatever your views, artificial intelligence is here, so let’s look at how AI might enhance our businesses.

We have already been interacting with AI for years. Have you used a grammar- and spell-checker such as Grammarly? Do you ask Alexa or Siri for weather updates? Is there a security camera or a Ring doorbell on your house? Every one of these helpful services uses artificial intelligence.

So what can AI do to make running our businesses easier? We asked ChatGPT to “Give 5 bullet points on how artificial intelligence is helpful for small business owners.” Here’s the reply:

  • Cost Savings and Efficiency

AI automates routine tasks such as bookkeeping, scheduling, and inventory management, helping small business owners save time and reduce operational costs.

  • Enhanced Marketing Strategies

AI tools analyze customer data to create targeted marketing campaigns, improving engagement and boosting sales with minimal effort.

  • Improved Customer Service

AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants provide instant responses and support, enhancing customer satisfaction and freeing up staff for other tasks.

  • Data-Driven Decision Making

AI helps small business owners make informed decisions by providing insights into market trends, customer preferences, and business performance.

  • Competitive Advantage

AI enables small businesses to compete with larger companies by optimizing processes, predicting trends, and offering personalized customer experiences.

This sounds great! What business wouldn’t want to take advantage of these services? Of course, there are some drawbacks as well. Cost is one consideration as AI tools usually require a license or subscription to use. AI accuracy is also something to keep in mind. In the bullet points above, for example, there is a weirdly inconsistent use of the Oxford comma. Also, since AI platforms are only as good as the data they are given, the artificial intelligence tool you use must be well-trained.

And speaking of data, if you look over the bullet points again, you’ll notice that each of these helpful services requires data input from you. AI tools can’t operate in a vacuum, so businesses need to properly collect and enter the appropriate data, which may require additional tools or services.

Over the next weeks, we’ll take a look at some of the ways that small business owners can use artificial intelligence to lighten their load. We’ll also discuss caveats and costs, although not all AI-based tools are expensive. For instance, GA4, the Google Analytics tool for your website, uses artificial intelligence and it’s free. If you don’t already have it on your website, give us a call today. We can set you up so you can start collecting that important data!
