DNN Website Pros Meet in Denver
The Sprocket Report
Next week Sprocket is headed to DNN Summit to network with, learn from and share with fellow web techs. We’ve built websites for many years using various tools and folks have asked us: “Why DNN?” Glad you asked! Here’s why:
From the point of view of the average business owner, which platform their website is created on is unimportant – as long as the site looks good and works well. But web developers have their preferences and the team at Sprocket finds how DNN builds websites logical and comprehensive. Since much of the DNN platform is Open Source, it’s an affordable solution that creates some really impressive functionality for just about any organization.
Companies that use Microsoft products such as SharePoint or SQL Server in their office are particularly well-suited to using DNN as their web platform. “DNN” is the shortened version of an earlier name, “DotNetNuke,” so-called because it was based on Microsoft’s .NET technology. It just makes sense to keep things simple in the IT department and the similar tech makes sharing databases a cinch.
Of course we all know that web technology is constantly changing and DNN relies heavily on the community for improvements to the platform. Conferences like this year’s DNN Summit in Denver and DNN Connect in Switzerland bring together developers, designers, administrators and marketers to learn from each other and keep DNN evolving. Sprocket’s Don Gingold is once again a presenter at DNN Summit this year and will be talking about how to support websites with social media marketing.
Recently, the corporate side of DNN was acquired by ESW Capital. The change has revitalized the community and jumpstarted new interest in the platform. We at Sprocket can’t wait for DNN Summit to learn the latest!
People ask us to compare DNN to WordPress and they ask which is better. Honestly, it depends on your needs. We also do quite a few WordPress websites for clients, if it makes sense for their situation. That’s one of the best things about belonging to a development community – you can learn from others who have had similar experiences and make better choices to avoid problems.
When we get back from Denver, we’ll be all revved up with fresh DNN news and training. If you are facing a big DNN project, it will be a great time to give us a call to discuss it. We’re happy to help!
