Are You a New, Small Biz? Start with a Do-It-Yourself Website

This is an update to "To DIY or not to DIY...That is one of several questions” dated 12/12/2012.

Starting a new business on a shoestring? Need a website, but don’t have the budget? Don’t panic! You can still get up-and-running online if you DIY.

Every business needs an internet presence, and while a personalized website that fits you like your favorite jeans might be your dream, a custom-built solution might be out of your price range right now. Fortunately, there are do-it-yourself options that look good and work well for start-up companies.

We have come a long way from the old code-it-yourself website. Today’s DIY platforms are easier than ever to navigate while offering tons of options to fit your taste, needs and goals. Begin by asking yourself a few questions such as:

  • What do you need your website to do?

Is this an online brochure with contact information? Or are you conducting business like product sales or registration?

  • Whose sites have you really liked and why?

Do some research and make a list of the styles, colors and features that you want to include on your own site.

  • When can you start?

You can do-it-yourself, 24/7, in your pajamas.

Will you get every bell and whistle of your dream website with a DIY option? No – you will need to modify your expectations a bit. But, with start-ups especially, your best-laid plans can get blown up and the custom website you thought you needed may wind up undergoing massive transformations. Starting small makes it easier to change things up in a hurry with little expense.

Sprocket Websites is a full-fledged custom website builder and we want to build you the website of your dreams, but you may just not be ready yet. We get that. Which is why we offer our Sprocket Store with do-it-yourself options for WordPress websites, shopping carts, domain names and other DIY tools. https://www.sprocketstore.com

Since you know us, give us a call if you get stuck. And we’ll be here when you want to switch over to a custom-built site in the future. Now, go DIY yourself a website!

Sprocket Report

Every other Tuesday, Sprocket sends out the Sprocket Report, our latest business tip or our reaction to what's currently happening in Internet Marketing.

You'll read a web marketing tip from Kate, another one from Breanne, and - bonus! - we always have a guest post as well.

That's three valuable posts that you can read, plus a quick look at upcoming events and what's being said on Twitter. A great synopsis!

You'll want to get this newsletter for yourself, in your own inbox, so here's how. It's easy!

Scroll back up and put your email in the box. OR scroll to the bottom of each page. We have our newsletter subscription box there, too!

We NEVER give out your email address to anybody else, and we don't flood you with ads. It's just good, free information.
