You Never Know Who's Looking

A Blog Post Can Go A Long Way on Varied Paths

Last week, I wrote a post about the trending story of Trending Bias on the part of Facebook.

I don't write weekly posts. In fact, in this case, I was looking for a good example for a seminar I was teaching in Rockford to the In Print Writing Group on using Internet Marketing by authors. I wanted to show the concept of "Through, Not To."

The concept is simple enough. Instead of posting a reference on Facebook to a third party story (TO), write a blog post about the referral article on your own website and send people from Facebook to the original article by way of your own website (THROUGH).

When you do this, the reader gets to see your logo, navigation bar, side bar and all your branding before s/he goes on to the original article. But remember, you have to add something. If you add nothing to the conversation, people will be turned off ("fool me once...") but if you have something to say, by all means, its' a great way to add while getting a little - and completely legitimate - exposure for your business.

Imagine my surprise when this morning I see that John Zettel, the In Home Computer Geek, found my little article commenting on this Trending Bias story, and included it in his Paper.li newspaper. Go have a read.

To my fellow Social Media experts out there, this comes as a big "so what" since we've been teaching this technique for awhile, but hey, I'm not talking to you guys! :-) To the non-believers out there, here's a simple example that can show you what we've been telling you, namely...

It works!

You'll read a web marketing tip from Kate, another one from Breanne, and - bonus! - we always have a guest post as well.

That's three valuable posts that you can read, plus a quick look at upcoming events and what's being said on Twitter. A great synopsis!

You'll want to get this newsletter for yourself, in your own inbox, so here's how. It's easy!

Scroll back up and put your email in the box. OR scroll to the bottom of each page. We have our newsletter subscription box there, too!

We NEVER give out your email address to anybody else, and we don't flood you with ads. It's just good, free information.
