Considering it is a social network full of professionals across countless fields –LinkedIn seems like the perfect place to post any job openings your company may have. Whether your company is simply looking for extra talent or a main goal of your social media strategy is to attract specific employees, posting a job listing to LinkedIn is a great way to receive new applicants.

LinkedIn has paid job advertising options for businesses who want to post a listing that will attract some attention. Think of your LinkedIn ad as a way to advertise the job. To sell the job. The point isn’t just to throw a job description up and hope that it sticks. The goal is to create an ad that makes people want to apply. LinkedIn job posting advertisements are not free. Take your time and get your money’s worth.

The first thing you should do is to make sure you have a detailed description of the job and of your company. Next, come up with a budget. What do you want to spend to fill this position? Also, think of your demographic. Who is the best fit for this job? That is who you want to target.

So, how do you post a job ad to LinkedIn?

Once you’ve signed into your account, go to the “Business Services” tab and then click on “Post a Job”. When you get to the job posting, fill in what you know. Title, company name and location, etc. In the description portion you can really customize exactly what you want to say with your ad. Next you are creating your ad. The best next option seems to be to “Let candidates apply with their LinkedIn profile”. Convenience is king these days. If someone has to leave LinkedIn to go to a third party website to apply, chances are they won’t make it there.

When you’ve created the ad, you then have the option to sponsor your ad for an extra fee. The ad is costing money either way. Sponsoring your ad is a per-click option that gives you a higher visibility. After you’ve chosen whether or not to sponsor the ad, you move onto payment. You will have to set a budget and LinkedIn will have you enter your credit card information. From there, you can publish your ad.
The important thing to remember when posting a job ad to LinkedIn is that you are marketing your business. You are selling this job and your company to prospective employees. Be sure that your company page is well rounded and fully detailed. Go through and make sure that you are putting your best face forward.
