Future Trends to Consider for Your Next Website Design

When was your last update anyway?

Just like clothing and home design, websites have trends as well. Take a look at these design elements that will keep your site looking up-to-date.

It’s all about the User. If Users aren’t happy with their website experience, they aren’t happy with your product or service either. Here are three areas where you can improve on the User’s experience.

Stylishly Artful

Minimal design continues to trend, driven in large part by the increasing use of pocket-sized screens. Colors are bold and in high contrast to each other for best visibility, with simple, clean-lined graphics. Dark backgrounds have also been popping up more frequently, again, with high-contrast text and graphics. User-friendly navigation, including streamlined menus and obvious Calls To Action, are also important. Intuitive navigation can be tricky to create, however, and require a lot of pre-planning between the web designer and the business client.

Increasingly Personal

Let’s face it, we’re a self-obsessed people and we love to “go where everybody knows our name.” Personalization on websites starts with exact search terms and landing pages so that your website is reaching the right people. Once they are on the website, you can access the Users’ previous browsing behavior or location to further personalize their experience while they move through your pages. Interactive elements like calculators or polls are other ways to connect with your User. Even micro interactions like a color change when the cursor rolls around builds bonds.

Thoughtfully Physical

While ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant websites should have been created all along, it’s not too late to fix that mistake. Many of the compliancy issues are of importance to all Users, including sufficient white space and accurate alt tags. Remember, too, that many people are manipulating their phones with one hand. Designing your website so that it’s easy to tap or swipe the important stuff with a thumb just makes sense. Something new on the horizon to think about is that Users are increasingly using voice commands on their phones.

As 2021 winds down, we’ll be hearing more about the trends for the next year, but these are some that will probably dominate. Take a look at your own website. If it’s starting to look a little behind-the-times, get ahead of the game and start planning for a new look and feel now. Then you’ll be all ready to go when 2022 starts! Give us a call today to talk about where you can improve.
