Facebook Rebranding - What Does This Mean for Small Business Marketing?

Specifically, for YOUR Business Marketing

Facebook changed its name in October of 2021. Wondering if the changes will impact how you use Facebook for social media marketing?

Facebook’s new name is “Meta” and it’s meant to be more inclusive of what Mark Zuckerberg is envisioning for the future. Zuckerberg has been investing heavily in virtual and augmented reality on the internet, particularly as an integral part of social media. A history of bad publicity, no doubt, also prompted the rebrand.

If you are using Facebook as part of your business’s social media marketing plan, you may be wondering how this will impact your campaigns. Meta is seriously focused on developing software as well as hardware to really push the frontiers of virtual and augmented reality. As an example, Zuckerberg recently warned investors that Facebook’s operating profit will be about $10B under expectations because of development costs.

In the long run, what marketing could look like in the future is pretty inspiring. For the present, however, most of us won’t be affected by the change. Facebook will continue to be what it is today. Go ahead and plan your social media marketing and Facebook ads as you have in the past.

This isn’t the first time a company has tried rebranding itself and the world simply ignored the effort. Many folks are unaware that Google’s official corporate name is, in fact, “Alphabet.” We just keep calling it “Google” and using it the same way we always have.

The jury is still out on the success of Zuckerberg’s endeavor to clean up his public relations problems with a name change. No doubt other changes will take place down the line as well. But as long as Facebook is a viable marketing platform – and it is – your business may as well take advantage of it. If you don’t currently have the time or the team to write posts or set up ads, let the Sprocket team do it for you. Just give us a call to work out how we can best help you.
