#DNNWorld Conference Day 1 - Wrap Up

DNNWorld 2011

DotNetNuke Widgets, from A to Z - Will Strohl

A very good session by Mr. Strohl, thorough, informative and will be useful down the road. Some cool points like highlighting links on a page and how to do some cool code movement techniques for search engines. This and some cool social media integrations as well.

Mobile Website UI - Best Practices - Tracy Wittenkeller

Tracy did a good job of highlighting some of best practices for mobile sites, and he showed some things not to do. There was extensive use of QR codes which was awesome and he ended with a nice way to get the presentation and fill out a quick survey right on your mobile device.

Advanced Debugging Techniques for DotNetNuke - Cathal Connolly

There is always that damn DotNetNuke error message that you just can’t figure out what is going on. Cathal showed us some techniques that will help us track down those errors and what you can do about them. Log4Net and other tools will help with that.

U Can’t Touch This: DotNetNuke Modules with jQuery Mobile - Nik Kalyani

Nik always shows some very cool stuff. And Druid was no exception. A rules based processor that sits on top of DotNetNuke that will allow for processing of some very cool things like browser, user, role, page, skin objects, etc...

Skin a Completed DotNetNuke Web Site using HTML5 and CSS3 in One Hour - Amelia Marschall

Amelia did a great job of showing off some HTML5 and CSS3 work in this session. Cool things with fonts, gradations, rounded corners, and shadow techniques. Even shared some cool websites and tools. Things like Font Squirrel and ways to include Web Fonts in your sites to Colorzilla.com to help create awesome gradient backgrounds. Check out htmldemo.gravityworksdesign.com for more cool things.

The Facebook factor - Will Morgenweck

Last session of the day was put on by #theotherwill (Will Morgenweck) He showed come cool techniques and upcoming features to display DotNetNuke content on a Facebook page. A nice straightforward process to have people update content on a DNN site and have Facebook be automatically updated. Support for both liked pages and open pages.

Then it was on to the DNN After Dark party. A very nice gathering with some good food and friends. They gave out awards for the Website of the Year, top User Group Community and they announced the winners of the DotNetNuke Superfan Contest. They even gave away one of the coveted Shaun Walker bobble-heads by putting it at the bottom of the pool and having someone jump in to get it. Needless to say I wasn’t the first person out the door to get my hands on this gem. It was funny to see Shaun dressed up to match his bobble-head and there were lots of good jokes and ribbings from the audience to make it a fun event.

Kudos to the DotNetNuke Marketing team. They have put on a great show and I’m looking forward to tomorrows events.
