CMS Redefined at #DNNWorld

Jim'll tell you about his classes so let's dig into the ones I attended. My first was on choosing when to use a mobile app and when to use a web app with mobile devices talk by Jeff McWherter of gravity works in Michigan. Jeff did a great job with his knowledge of many different mobile devices and told some great war stories about testing many different types of phones for the right rendering.

Next Will Morgenwick of DNN Corporation showed how easy it was to link DNN websites to both Facebook and Twitter. He promised several small modules to be placed in codeplex.com that facilitated the connection between the website and social media. I'll describe that later after I reproduce it myself, once he posts the new modules.

Amelia Marschall also from Gravity Works showed the techniques that make a skin work on both a full screen desktop computer and various sized mobile devices. It's all in the proper use of div's and CSS. I don't plan to write a skin from scratch, but I often tweak the ones that I buy, and this new knowledge will help out a lot.

I had hoped to learn how to use the new menuing system, DDRMenu, but alas, Mark Allen's computer crashed just before the presentation. I hate when that happens! In fact, it seems one of the classrooms was cursed. A similar thing happened to Peter Drucker before his very good talk on localization. But luckily his slides explained the concept enough to lead the way to some independent homework.

I'm looking forward to the next and final day of DNNWorld tomorrow.

Sprocket Report

Every other Tuesday, Sprocket sends out the Sprocket Report, our latest business tip or our reaction to what's currently happening in Internet Marketing.

You'll read a web marketing tip from Kate, another one from Breanne, and - bonus! - we always have a guest post as well.

That's three valuable posts that you can read, plus a quick look at upcoming events and what's being said on Twitter. A great synopsis!

You'll want to get this newsletter for yourself, in your own inbox, so here's how. It's easy!

Scroll back up and put your email in the box. OR scroll to the bottom of each page. We have our newsletter subscription box there, too!

We NEVER give out your email address to anybody else, and we don't flood you with ads. It's just good, free information.
