Content Marketing: Your Content is Your First Impression

DIY Sprocket Solutions

For businesses that dive into the realm of content marketing, you are taking on a certain responsibility. If you are writing a blog or creating articles surrounding your business and industry, people are looking at you as an expert on that topic or in that field. In most cases, having a byline gives you some semblance of authority. Maybe this gives you the impression that your job is easier to execute. People are going to think that you know what you’re talking about –so the pressure is off to create truly valuable content. This couldn’t be less true. Mediocre content can potentially hurt your business more than no content at all.

Think of the content you’re putting out into the world as the first impression to your brand. Depending on where you promote your content, this may be a potential customer’s first experience with your business. If the content they come across is inaccurate, not well thought out, or just plain boring –you’re not leaving the best first impression. Would you want to do business with a company who presents information that isn’t trustworthy or valuable?

Your presence online is a second storefront or possibly your only storefront depending on the type of business you have. Customers are coming in, evaluating what you have to offer, and deciding whether or not they want to do business with you moving forward. While it is important to present consistent content, you don’t want to just churn out a monotonous flow of mediocrity. People will see through it and they won’t value your brand.

If you want to make a good first impression, put some thought into your content marketing strategy. Plan out what your consumers want and need to know about. Find out the appropriate ways to present this content to them. Put some time and effort into making sure that the things you’re saying are accurate, relevant, and interesting. Treat each article, video, and so on as your very first impression with a potential client. How do you want to present yourself? How are you representing your brand? Would you engage with you?

Content marketing, social media marketing, and online targeting are all necessary avenues to explore as a business. The way you cultivate these different marketing strategies can mean the difference between success and failure. It’s worth taking the time to be sure you’re presenting yourself in the right way.

Do you think that content marketing serves as a first impression to those who come across your information? What’s your responsibility to readers? How can content marketing hurt a brand? Comment below!

You'll read a web marketing tip from Kate, another one from Breanne, and - bonus! - we always have a guest post as well.

That's three valuable posts that you can read, plus a quick look at upcoming events and what's being said on Twitter. A great synopsis!

You'll want to get this newsletter for yourself, in your own inbox, so here's how. It's easy!

Scroll back up and put your email in the box. OR scroll to the bottom of each page. We have our newsletter subscription box there, too!

We NEVER give out your email address to anybody else, and we don't flood you with ads. It's just good, free information.
