3 Things to Stop Doing on Social Media

DIY Sprocket Solutions

We all have bad habits. We fall into a routine, we get comfortable, and we do things because they’re easy. It’s human nature. When it comes to social media marketing though –this is a trap. Run far away! If you’re marketing your business on social media (which you should be), you need to start shaking things up. Get out of that rut. Jumble up that routine. Put a little pep in your step. We’re all guilty of getting too comfortable. Myself included. Everything on this list is something that I can improve on in my own marketing routines!

So, what are three things that we all ABSOLUTELY need to stop doing on social media?

1. Auto-scheduling across multiple platforms

We know that all social media platforms are different. But with amazing social media management tools like Hootsuite, Buffer, and more –it is easier and easier to auto schedule one post across all of your networks. I’m guilty of the same! There are different ways to optimize your posts on different platforms. Twitter your character numbers are limited –Facebook they aren’t! Hashtags truly work for you in different ways. Optimize your posts for each platform individually. We already know this. We all need the reminder.

2. Not optimizing photo use

Every social media platform has different photo qualifications and sizes to use for optimum use and visibility. There are different specifications for profile photo, header photo, background photo, thumbnail photo, etc. across each platform. You’re only doing yourself a disservice if you’re using photos that don’t fit well –or if you’re not using photos in all available spaces at all. Social media marketing is a very visual practice. People want instant information. A photo gives them that instant information.

3. Talking AT your followers and customers

I’ve said it a million times. Social media is about being SOCIAL. It is not social to blurt out posts like billboards on a highway. You are not just talking at them. Talk to them as well. Social media offers a unique way for customers to interact and form a relationship with your business. Talk to your customers and allow those positive interactions and relationships to grow.

Like I said before, I’m guilty of all of the above. Just because you’ve been stagnant in the past, doesn’t mean it’s too late to shake up your strategy. We can all start today. Which of the above are you guilty of? All of them? Maybe just one? What other things do you think we need to immediately stop doing in our social media marketing approaches? Comment below!
